My Special Place....Atlantis/Es Vedra, Ibiza.

After looking at Mary B's Photoblog it reminded me today was the day to post your special place, so I've just changed my post. These pictures were taken in June '08 with a Fijifilm F11, as it's what I had at the time.

My most special place in the whole world is a place known as Atlantis, or the secret beach, in Ibiza. Not many tourists really know about the place, and even less have visited. This is in part down to the inaccessibility of the place, the only path by land is down a very steep and slippery cliff, probably around 300metres long or so.

When you finally climb down in the searing heat, what greets you is actually an old quarry, where the rock was taken to build Dalt Vila in Ibiza Town. This place is very popular with spiritual people, and all around are carvings in the rock, and little piles of cairns. I have never seen a picture do the place justice, because it is more about the feel of the place than anything else.

In the distance off the coast of Atlantis is the small island of Es Vedra, which is said to be an area with a high magnetic energy, and there have been reports of many UFO sightings.

Legend has it that this is the Island of the Sirens, who lured sea-men to their deaths with their beautiful, captivating singing.

This place seems to have a special energy, and it has a big place in our hearts. I might only get to visit once a year, but there is nowhere else on earth that I feel so at one with the planet, my Wife and myself.
